Deck night shots

The deck lights went in on Thursday. I had some time this evening to take some photos as the weather was comparatively mild for this time of the year. These shots are taken from our bedroom. I am sitting on the bed with the camera on a tripod just inside the room, and the french doors opened onto the deck.

The LED's rotate through about 8 colours, and can be sped up, slowed down, or set to stay on a single colour. Carole had the electrician wire them up so that they are switched on from inside the lounge room, which is great for convenience. There are some brighter blue LED's on each of the stairs at both ends of the deck. The whole effect is beautiful.

The deck flooring has not yet been oiled, so is looking a little lighter than it should. It will look even more impressive after it has been oiled.

Renovation - End of Week 23

The wires for the deck railing have now been installed. They look so awesome! There is a lot of them, due to the new regulations. here is no way kids will fall through them. The look is fantastic.

The deck roof is taking shape. Just about ready for the laserlite sheeing. Matt and Tom have done a great job with this roof. The space is huge.

The left picture is of the ensuite ceiling, with the hole cut for the IXL Tastic (Fan, heater, and light). The right picture is of the newly painted rear sliding door and laundry area. The tinted wood has ended up a good match for the old wood in the house. And the paint job is great. Very light compared to the old colour.

These pictures are of the newly painted lounge room. It looks great. I cannot wait to get the carpet in there so we can start using the room.

The roof access ladder has been installed. It is such a great idea. Very easy access to the roof for some storage, and seeing where the possums are getting in!

We are very nearly completed nost of the build now. After the deck roof is done and the final electrical work, the builders will move onto gutting the old bathroom and toilet, and rebuilding them as one room in a new floor plan. I have to organise the carpets and kitchen floor coverings.

Renovation - End of Week 22

The rafters for the deck roof are mostly installed. The roof is huge! I like the feeling of space under the high roof, and that Jarrah looks awesome!

The hand rails are on. Just right for resting the beer bottle on!

The plumbing and tiling in the ensuite are complete.The spa works great. I had to run a cleaner through it first as it had a lot of dirt in the tub and even in the jet outlets. It is very white, so we will have to add some colour with accessories. The towel rail is not yet working, and there is no lighting or electricity yet.

How cool does that kitchen look! The Jarrah bench top has been installed, and the glass splashback is in. Only electrical and flooring to go.

The read patio is now tiled. The colour is great, and we really like the black stair tread tile.

Renovation - End of Week 21

The old lounge room is looking more and more like a bedroom. The skirting board has been installed around the floor, window, doors, and soon-to-be built in cupboard. The picture rail is also installed.

The deck roof has been started. The wood is beautiful, and will look awesome when it is done!

The ensuite walls have been tiled, and the cornices installed. The natural stone vertical feature tiles look awesome. The large white tiles also look awesome. It is just amazing that the dark old laundry could be turned into this light and relatively roomy ensuite.

The cornices have been installed arounf the kitchen, laundry, and lounge room. I is looking more and more complete now.

The tiling of the back landing is underway. We are very happy with out tile choice. The colour looks great against the bricks, and the black stair marker tile is great.

The tiled concrete floor under the washing machine is complete. It really makes a difference, as there is now a solid, flat floor to place the washing machine on. No more vibrating and walking everywhere during the spin cycle.

Renovation - End of Week 20

This week saw the tiles go into the ensute, and the skirting board go into the lounge room, kitchen, and new bedroom that was the old kitchen.

The small square you can see near the spa is the overflow drain hole. It uses a piece of the floor tile, which looks fantastic.

Renovation - End of Week 19

There is now a small white frame around the french doors, which finishes off the doors nicely.

The two sets of deck stairs are now cemented in, and the post holders are cemented in to hold the uprights for the handrail and roof supports.

The brickwork is now complete around the ensuite windows and everywhere else around the outside of the house.

The raised floor is installed under the sink, and the silver kickboards are in. It looks very clean.

The framework around the pantry is complete, and the white skirting around the back door has been installed. It cleans up the line between the aluminium door and the brickwork.

There is now a door to close off the entry to the under house area, which now stops the possums from getting under the house and into the walls. Yay!

Renovation - End of week 18

Well we finally got rid of the old kitchen cupboards, and even better, the granite bench-top arrived! It is Galaxy Black, natural granite, and it looks awesome! It is a deep black, with gold and silver coloured specles throughout, which I am told is created by deposits of ferrous rich Enstatine (Bronzite). Anyway, it looks great!

The cook-top is a Miele induction cook-top. It looks great against the Galaxy Black granite.

We went for an under-mount sink, which shows off the granite bench top, and makes it look very neat.

This is a great angle, showing all of the granite bench-tops.

And this is the laundry area.

The ensuite has been waterproofed, so the tiling should start soon.

I finally got to move the fridge into the house. It has been stored in the garage for a couple of weeks.

And we got all of the vents in the bedrooms removed and rendered over. They were an eyesore, and were not needed. I suspect that these vents caused a lot of our winter heat loss.

The plumbing for the Ensuite shower is done.

The old Kitchen which will now become the fourth bedroom has now been clad ready for painting.

The deck stairs are done. It is great to be able to step onto the deck from the back yard.

Renovation - End of week 16

The deck looks so awesome! I It is a great view looking out the lounge room doors onto the deck. It's a little too cold to be out on the deck at the moment

They are starting on the stairs to the deck.

The ensuite ceiling has been stripped back to allow a new ceiling to be placed over it. The ceiling access hole will no longer be in this room.

This is the ensuite glass brick window, fron inside the ensuite, and outside.

Some more pics of the kitchen. The new glass doors have been attached to the island bench, and the door handles attached to drawers and doors. We have now decided on the granite for the kitchen benches. We are going for Galaxy Black natural granite. We saw it in a friends place, and it looks spectacular.

The laundry cupboard is now mostly functional. This is now our temporary kitchen while the new kitchen is being finished.

The doorway between the old kitchen and the hallway is now sealed up. This will be rendered, and painted.

Aaron and I removed the old kitchen cupboards and floor, but not before some pranking about

Renovation - End of week 15

Wow, lots of work done this week, so lots of photos to upload. We are getting excited now, as we can see that we are on the home stretch.

All of the windows and doors have now had architraves fitted. The top left one is the bedroom window.

The deck flooring was completed. Just the stairs and awning to go. This deck looks so awesome!

The concrete was poured in both the ensuite and the patio at the back door. The ensuite window facing the street was removed ready to install the glass bricks.

And finally the kitchen was installed. It is really looking a lot more like a home now. I cannot wait till it is all done!

The deck was started this week, It is great to be able to step out of the french doors onto the deck. Of course it rained a lot during this week, which was MUCH needed, but delayed the work a little.

The first of the deck flooring is attached. Looks great, even in the rain.

More of the uprights to support the roof are installed.

The plumbing for the ensuite is installed.

The footings for the deck are poured, an the deck work has started. The blue wood is Design Pine, and the natural wood is Jarrah.

The window picture above shows the height difference between the old and new windows. The extra size does let in a bit more light. The front door picture shows the new door mat. It is a perfect fit for the space.

Renovation - End of week 11

Week 11 of the renovation is complete.

The front window is complete from the outside. All of the brickwork is done.

The laundry floor was removed using a jackhammer. Looks like there was a lot of concrete in there.

The side door was removed. This was our main entrance to the house, so it is strange to see it go.

The doorway was then bricked up from the inside, with the new ensuite window in place.

The brickwork on the outside of the old side doorway was completed.

The rubble from the laundry was placed in the new back door landing.

And the brickwork around the french doors is now completed. There is also some movement on making the deck

On to week 12!

Trolley

I finally got a trolley to move all of these boxes and furniture a round during the renovation. Makes it a lot easier to move stuff around, and the large pneumatic tires handle the stairs easily.

Renovation - End of week 10

Well it is now the end of week 10 of the renovation. We are getting very tired of all the decisions! But it will all be worth it when it is finished!

This week they put in the french doors in the bedroom and spare bedroom. They really look awesome! They let in so much more light than the old windows.

The above pics show the installation of the french door into the bedroom. We really love the look of the new door.

The laundry has been cleared.

The kitchen door frame was removed. This doorway will be bricked in.

The kitchen window has been removed, ready for the new window.

The new kitchen window is in. It looks awesome! The new window is thinner than the old one, which creates a bay window effect which looks great.

The bedroom windows are ready for installing the bay windows.
